《摩登家庭》S5E6：“話嘮”用英語怎麼說？

米奇爾他們再過幾個月就要舉行婚禮。他們的朋友佩波組織過幾十場同性戀婚禮，這次他帶他的助手羅納爾多來幫他們策劃婚禮。四個知識點，來看看吧。

1. chatterbox

chatterbox指的是話多的人（尤指小孩）。

關於話嘮，talk的衍生詞talkative就表示喜歡說話的；健談的；多嘴的。

還有形容詞talky，意思是能言善辯的；話多的。另外還有這些短語：

①talk sb's head off 對（某人）喋喋不休

②talk a blue streak 滔滔不絕，口若懸河

③talk the hind leg(s) off a donkey 喋喋不休

2. on the brink

完整的表達是teeter on the brink/edge of sth，形容瀕臨，處於（糟糕形勢）的邊緣。

brink表示的是（事情發生的）邊緣；始發點，比如形容在崩潰的邊緣：

Extreme stress had driven him to the brink of a nervous breakdown.

極大的壓力使他處於精神崩潰的邊緣。

比如接近某種狀態：

Scientists are on the brink of (= extremely close to) a major new discovery.

科學家們就快有新的重大發現了。

edge也表示（變故的）邊緣，當然指的是不好的方面。

The company is on the edge of collapse.

公司瀕臨倒閉。

3. not sleep a wink

not sleep a wink也可以是not get a wink of sleep，意思都是“沒閤眼，一刻也沒睡”。

I didn't sleep a wink last night with all that noise.

昨晚噪聲那麼大，我根本就沒睡着。

一般“熬夜”可以說stay up：

We stayed up (late) to watch a film.

我們熬夜看了部電影。

4. through the mill

mill的意思是磨坊，碾磨廠，磨粉廠，have been through the mill可以表示久經磨練，飽嘗辛酸。而put sb through the mill可以表示使（某人）飽受折磨；（尤指用大量問題）爲難（某人）。

I had the interview this morning - they really put me through the mill.

我今早去面試了——他們真讓我受了番折磨。
