Death of Extremism Results from Death of Social Care

To move or not to move, a dilemma that had been plaguing Weng Biao for two months was finally resolved in a burning way. With his two-room shack knocked down by the government's bulldozer, Weng made a desperate attempt of pouring a can of gasoline on himself and sparking a fire. He was dead, which raised the tension between the government and the inhabitants to move greater than ever. So who is to blame? No specific culprit but the society itself. It is the ill social response to those in need that led to the behavior of extremism and the ensuing un

Weng's story typifies the buddyship between social instability and extreme behavior. The bulldozer not only pulled down the family's shelter but their last hope of getting the justice done as well. Without home, without fear. It is the boldness from despair that ignited the wanton breach of social rule, which basically comes in the form of extreme behavior like self-burning. Turmoil, the state of rulelessness, thus started.

But where's the society? Has it ever done something to stop the tragedy? No! All we can see is silence till the burning the worse is yet to come. In the case of Zhang Xinpin, a depressed boy who jumped out of the building to death because of wowing from the spectators. Society simply facilitates the sad end by inducing the victim to the extreme.

Throw the cards of neglect and instigation into the trash box, and we get the trump. That is the care for others. If Weng Biao had been given a chance to pour his worry to somebody and

that person offered to lend a hand, the fire could probably have been avoided even though the demolition went on. Why? Because a sense of being cared about is gained. Weng, formerly fought by himself, now found something to rely on. Similarly, if the society approaches the extremist-to-be, listens to his suffering and does some supportive things (comforting words, donation.., an ything will do), the horrible decision, once as stiff as a poker, will mostly be given up.

Yet, the problem is not over. What if the extreme behavior really happens? Which role should the society play?

First, the dignity of the victim himself deserves full ing the victim for his stupidity only irritates the kind of people sharing the same suffering.

Second, the cause of the event should be publicized if it has anything to do with most people's interest. Otherwise, Rumors will erode people's trust in the society while turmoil can well be stirred up by the widespread anxiety.

Last, the problem that brings about the tragedy is supposed to get a solution. It can be the establishment and modification of laws, or simply more attention to the group of people in need.

It counts how we do to curb the extreme behavior for the sake of social stability. The best policy, as I said before, is to care for the people in trouble, make the event known to the public if necessary and heal the defect hidden behind.

另外,這篇文章的語言也非常有特色:to move or not to move;and the worse is yet to come等精煉的句子都顯示出作者深厚的英語功底。

The Stability of a Society Depends on How it Responds to the Extremes of Human Behavior

"The Stability of a Society Depends on How it Responds to the Extremes of Human Behavior"

In today's world, the international situation is, on the whole, moving towards relaxation. However, conflicts and even local wars have kept cropping up, and tension still remains in some areas. Whether a society in trouble can remain stable largely depends on how it responses to the extremes of human behavior.

Let's get down to fundamentals and agree that the majority of people are law forbidden citizens people would feel quite comfortable to live a peaceful life, and would not ask for trouble if trouble doesn't trouble them. Only in one situation people may lose their sense. Unwise decisions and finally, against their real intension, throw the country into confusion. That's when some groups have caused tension or conflict. At that time, a nation's destiny will be in the hand of its response. A strong country would be capable of handling the event. It would immediately take measures to minimum the losses; comfort it's people, confirm them "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself . "; describe a bright future and put the reconstruction plan into action effectively. In this way, the society, as a whole, won't be much influenced. On the contrary, a weak country would possibly be taken by surprise. Anxiety, desperation might occupy people's heart, impulse would take the place of sense, and at last, the consequences would be beyond everybody's imagination. So, we can say, a nation's response in emergency is of the utmost importance. If one can't deduce it from general principles, he can easily know it from concrete examples.

The 9.11 event, for instance, did weaken America to some extent, but it also shows the strength of the great nation, especially people in its financial center New York. After the plane crashed into the Pentagon, the world is shocked. But American citizens still act calmly. People working in that building walked down orderly, giving way to the wounded; the medical workers hurried to the spot, giving first aid:the mayor made out a series of strategies to bring the city back to peace; even the President himself made a encouraging speech to comfort all his people. Not long after that, everything is back to normal (stock index not included). America still stands as it was.

Unfortunately, things in Brazil didn't go that well. Small fluctuation in economy (here I'd like to broaden the meaning of "extremes of human behavior")drove people to rush to cash their money in the bank, as if their deposits were to become a pile of waste paper in no time. Of course, banks were not prepared to afford such a large sum of money. The result? The economy in Brazil still lies in paralysis today.

The above point is still easier to understand, if we compare the society to a forest. It's common knowledge that the less its ecosystem is influenced by external forces (such as storms, floods), the more stable it is. The same principle can also be used in our society.

So, I firmly believe, the stability of a society depends on how it responds to the extremes of human behavior.

Not This Extreme Policy

Now there is a discussion over whether it is right to adopt the policy to allow people who have received high education, especially those who got their degrees abroad to have more than one child while others can't. Considering it brutality, I don't agree to such an inhumane policy.

According to eugenics, this policy may benefit us in short term. We have to confess the importance of family g the first ones to enlighten their children, parents actually play the role of a life-long teacher to their children, too, having great influence on them. Well-educated parents may probably do better in bringing up children and help them develop better both mentally and physically. Thus, this policy maybe, to some extent, contributes to the development of our nation.

However, extremely unfair as this policy is, it will undoubtedly do more harm than its would-be advantages. Progeniture is our basic human right, and family planning is the policy we adopted together to stop the overgrowth of people. It is seen as discrimination towards those who are ordinarily educated to allow people with high diploma to bear more children only. This policy runs counter to "freedom, equality and fraternal love" as we've long claimed. It might even cause serious political problem.

What's more, in my point of view, a good diploma is not necessarily equal to knowledge. Yet, knowledge doesn't mean everything. We should not only judge a person merely by his education level, but by his abilities and skills and health and morality and personality as well. Furthermore, one's education level is not only influenced by his gene but by the financial circumstances, the culture of their families, the surroundings and many other factors. Ordinary people may have their own greatness.

Einstein's parents hadn't been to any college. If we had forbidden them to have this child, what would the world be? Knowledge doesn't easily mean superiority.

So radical a policy will not do good to our society. Actually,as far as I am concerned, putting more money to education is far more practical, which will help to form a good atmosphere for education and knowledge, thus lifting up the level of our whole nation. Only this is a long-term solution.

如第二段看似講這一政策的合理性,而且似已經推出了一個合理結論,但突然第三段開始筆峯一轉,態度堅決地闡明瞭自己的立場,“It is seen as discrimination towards those who are ordinarily educated tO allow people with high diploma to bear morechildren policy runs counter to·Freedom, equality and fraternal love'as we've long claimed.”又如,第四段先以三個否定句作鋪墊,引出了“Ordinary people may have their own greatness.”

值得一提的是,她在兩次闡述立場時,都採用了倒裝的表達方式,如:“However, extremely unfair as this policy is,“will undoubtedlydO more harmthan ts would—be advantages.”又如:“So radical a policy will not do good toour society.”倒裝句的使用,吸引了讀者的注意力,突出了她的立場觀點。這也是論說文中常用的表達技巧之一。

  大學英語作文:Sadness

Another rainy day. Tired of the continuous, endless, and consequently boring drizzle, I stepped out of the dormitory, at least, for some fresh air.

I walked around and then insensibly, towards Handan Road, along which our university lies. However, just the moment I set my eyes on the bounding walls, something different and striking rolled into my sight. Walls were pushed down;lights which should have been inlaid in the walls were all broken; fragments of red bricks bestrewed the pavement; young trees quivered in the unmerciful wind; only the tall china furs still stood there, but alone. In the rain, all were so bleak.

Please don't take it as the kind of deliberate destruction, or assume that it's a necessary part of the necessary reason for all these was simple "We just move the walls backwards a little so as to empty out enough space for Handan Road demanding widening. It is the order of the local government. ' I felt sad. Was it of any sense to widen the road, since in the near future an underpass will be put into use? Wasn't it of a certain loss to knock down all the walls and remove all the trees, which once had been the boundary of our quiet campus life and the noisy society outside, to achieve something called apparent modernization? Should not we pay the essential attention to the history of a university? This awaked the remembrance deep in my heart. Once, to create Wangdao Road, tremendous number of trees were cut down, leading to the inexcusable damage to the atmosphere through decades. Once, to establish a building of symbol, heaps of other age old buildings were pulled down, totally ignoring the long history of the university. My eyes filled

with tears. The university simply seemed to be a newly built one, with no history to mention, like a piece of shrunken bread.

It was said that in Tsinghua University, you'll catch a practical, realistic and creative style of study. And it was said that in Peking University, you'll sense the atmosphere of also, it was previously heard that in Fudan University you'll appreciate the sentiment of petty bourgeoisie. I acknowledged it before, but now perhaps something else was needed for me to confirm myself of the principle.

Insensibly again, I returned to the dormitory and closed my eyes. Then insensibly once more, I went back to the base area of our university. Oh! Why? Why the whole campus changed so dramatically? As slowly I approached the university, I could see its old buildings, which in the sunshine seemed much more magnificent. Some immemorial trees bended over the lake, their branches and leaves wavering in the breeze. Really, it can measute up to the standards of a famous university, illustrating its long history. Then I smiled and opened my eyes, but realizing it

was just a sweet dream.

Still unwilling to accept the fact, fleetly, out I ver, the walls were still not there, and the trees remained struggling in the cold wind. I looked away.
