中國有句老話叫：天要下雨孃要嫁人。這句話從何而來呢?來自一個古老的傳說。
In ancient times there was a scholar called Zhu Yaozong who came first in the highest imperialexamination. Conferred the title Number One Scholar, he was chosen to be the emperor's son-in-law. By convention, he would first return to his hometown in silken official robes. Before heleft he begged the emperor for a favor-to erect a chastity archway in honor of his widowedmother. His request was granted.
傳說古時候有個名叫朱耀宗的書生，進京趕考高中狀元。皇上殿試將他招爲駙馬。按慣例，朱耀宗一身錦繡新貴還鄉。臨行前，朱耀宗請求皇上爲多年守寡一直不嫁的母親豎立貞節牌坊。皇上準允所奏。
His mother, however, appeared uneasy when she was told about the chastity archway. Shehad to admit that she was determined to remarry and her would-be husband was Zhu'sformer tutor to whom he owed a great deal. Devastated by the idea Zhu fell to his knees infront of his mother: "Mom. That's absolutely impossible. How could I face others if you do des, it will mean I have deceived the emperor-a felony deserving death penalty."
當朱耀宗向娘述說了豎立貞節牌坊一事後，朱母露出了不安的神色，於是說出了想要嫁給朱耀宗的恩師張文舉的想法。朱耀宗頓時跪在孃的面前：“娘，這千萬使不得。您改嫁叫兒的臉往哪擱? 再說，欺君之罪難免殺身之禍啊。”
As he was caught in a fix and nothing could be done, his mother sighed:"Since things havecome to a head，let's trust to luck." She then took off a skirt and handed it to him,saying:"Wash it tomorrow and dry it in the sun for a day. If it dries up by dawn the nextmorning, I'll drop the idea; if not, you are not to interfere, for it's the will of Heaven."
正值左右爲難、無可奈何之際，朱母不由長嘆一聲：“聽天由命吧。”她隨手脫下身上一件羅裙，告訴朱耀宗說：“明天你替我把裙子洗乾淨，一天一夜曬乾。如果裙子曬乾，我答應不改嫁;如果裙子不幹，天意如此，你也不用再阻攔了。”
That day was very fine with the sun shining brightly in a clear sky. But during the night cloudsgathered and the sky became overcast. It broke into a violent shower towards daybreak. Theskirt remained wet long after dawn. His mother said to him seriously:"Look here, son. It rainswhen Heaven deems fit, mother remarries when she wants to. The will of Heaven is not to beopposed." So Zhu could do nothing but report to the emperor and express his readiness to bepunished. The emperor was greatly surprised by the story and issued an imperial decree:"Hewho is unaware is not liable. Since the match has been made by Heaven, it has to be allowed."
這一天，晴空朗日，誰知當夜陰雲密佈，天明下起暴雨，裙子始終是溼漉漉的。朱耀宗心中叫苦不迭，知是天意。朱母則認認真真地對兒子說：“孩子，天要下雨，娘要嫁人，天意不可違!”朱耀宗只得將母親和恩師的婚事報告皇上，請皇上治罪。皇上連連稱奇，降道御旨：“不知者不怪罪，天作之合，由他去吧。”
一年級英語故事比賽稿：留意你生活中的"磚頭"A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit toofast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars andslowed down when he thought he saw something.

As his car passed, one child appeared, and a brick smashed into the Jag's side door. Heslammed on the brakes and spun the Jag back to the spot from where the brick had beenthrown.

He jumped out of the car, grabbed some kid and pushed him up against a parked car, shouting, " What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing?"
他跳出車外，抓了那個小孩，把他頂在車門上說：“你爲什麼這樣做，你知道你剛剛做了什麼嗎?”
Building up a head of steam, he went on" That's a new car and that brick you threw is gonnacost a lot of money. Why did you do it?"
接着又吼道：“你知不知道你要賠多少錢來修理這臺新車，你到底爲什麼要這樣做?”
"Please,mister, please,I'm sorry. I didn't know what else to do!" pleaded the youngster.
小孩子求着說：“先生，對不起，我不知道我還能怎麼辦?”
"It's my brother," he said. "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lifthim up.
他接着說：“因爲我哥哥從輪椅上掉下來，我沒辦法把他擡回去。”
Sobbing, the boy asked the executive, "Would you please help me get him back into hiswheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me."
那男孩啜泣着說：“你可以幫我把他擡回去嗎?他受傷了，而且他太重了我抱不動。”
Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. Helifted the young man back into the wheelchair and took out his handkerchief and wiped thescrapes and cuts, checking to see that everything was going to be okay.

"Thank you, sir. And God bless you," the grateful child said to him. The man then watched thelittle boy push his brother to the sidewalk toward their home.

It was a long walk backs to his Jaguar... a long, slow walk. He never did repair the side door. Hekept the dent to remind him not to go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brickat you to get your attention.

Then Love decided to ask Vanity for help who was passing by in a beautiful vessel. Love criedout, "Vanity, help me please!" "I can't help you," Vanity said, "You are all wet and will damagemy beautiful boat."
虛榮坐在漂亮的小船中從愛身邊駛過，愛問：“虛榮，你能幫助我麼?”虛榮說：“不行，你全身溼透，會弄髒我的船。”
Next, Love saw Sadness passing by. Love said, "Sadness, please let me go with you." Sadnessanswered, "Love, I'm sorry, but, I just need to be alone now."
悲傷的船靠近了，愛問：“悲傷，請帶我走吧。”“哦……愛，我太難過了，想一個人呆着。”
Then, Love saw Happiness. Love cried out, "Happiness, please take me with you." ButHappiness was so overjoyed that he didn't hear Love calling to him.
幸福經過愛的身邊，它太開心了，根本沒聽見愛在呼喚。
Love began to cry. Then, she heard a voice say, "Come Love, I will take you with me." It was anelder. Love felt so blessed1 and overjoyed that she forgot to ask the elder his name. Whenthey arrived on land the elder went on his way. Love realized how much she owed the elder.
突然，一個聲音喊道：“來，愛，我帶你走。” 聲音來自“年老”。愛太高興了，甚至忘了問他們即將去何方。當他們來到岸上，年老自己離開了。愛突然意識到“年老”給了它多大的幫助。
Love then found Knowledge and asked, "Who was it that helped me?" "It was Time,' Knowledgeanswered. "But why did Time help me when no one else would? "Love asked. Knowledge smiledand with deep wisdom and sincerity, answered, "Because only Time is capable ofunderstanding how great Love is.
於是，愛問另一位老者——知識：“誰幫助了我?”知識說：“是時間。”“時間?”愛問：“但是時間爲什麼幫助我?”知識睿智地微笑道：“因爲只有時間瞭解愛的價值。”
