英國脫歐成爲柯林斯詞典年年度詞彙

"Brexit" was named the word of the year by Collins. The dictionary publisher said that Brexit saw its first recorded usage in 2013 and has increased by more than 3,400% this year.

詞典出版商柯林斯日前將"Brexit(英國脫歐)"一詞選爲年度詞彙。柯林斯稱，有關"Brexit"用法的記錄最早見於2013年；今年，該詞的使用率增加了逾3400%。

Britain's referendum in favour of an exit from the European Union (EU) was not only the most important political development but also resulted in the word Brexit becoming one of the most used terms of the year, according to Collins dictionary.

據柯林斯詞典表示，關於退出歐盟的英國公投不僅是最重要的政治發展，還導致Brexit這個詞成爲今年最常用的術語。

"'Brexit' is arguably politics's most important contribution to the English language in over 40 years, since the Watergate scandal gave commentators and comedians the suffix '-gate' to make any incident or scandal infinitely more compelling," said Helen Newstead, Collins's head of language content.

柯林斯語言內容主管海倫·紐斯戴稱，"水門醜聞"使得評論員和喜劇演員用"-gate(-門)"這一後綴來描述任何事件或醜聞，使之備受矚目；此後40多年來，"Brexit"可以說是政治對英語語言最重要的貢獻。

As well as its obvious definition and its spawning of words including "bremain" and "bremorse", the term has also inspired "a lot of wordplay".

除了"Brexit"顯而易見的釋義，以及包括"bremain(英國留歐)"、"bremorse(後悔英國脫歐)"在內的衍生詞，"Brexit"還激發了"許多文字遊戲"。

She pointed to "BrexPitt" or "Bradxit", referring to the end of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's marriage, and "Mexit", for the footballer Lionel Messi's retirement.

Trumpism was another popular word of the year, in reference to policies advocated by US presidential candidate Donald Trump.
