The Internet has become part of teenage life.

A new report on 3,375 students aged from 10 to 18 in seven Chinese cities found that 38 percent of them believe they use the Internet often.

While most of them get useful information and use the Internet to help in their studies, some are not using it in a good way.

In order to help young people use the Internet in a good way, a textbook on good Internet behavior has started to be used in some Shanghai middle schools this term. The book uses real examples to teach students all about good ways of using the Internet. The book gives useful advice such as it’s good to read news or find helpful information to study.

Some students also make online friends. But if you are meeting a friend offline, make sure your parents know. Teachers and parents all think the book is of great help. A teacher said the book would be a guide for teens using the Internet. When I was six, Dad brought home a dog one day, who was called “Brownie”. My brothers and I all loved Brownie and did different things with her. One of us would walk her, another would feed her, then there were baths, playing catch and many other games. Brownie, in return, loved each and every one of us. One thing that most touched my heart was that she would go to whoever was sick and just be with them. We always felt better when she was around.

One day, as I was getting her food, she chewed up (咬破) one of Dad’s shoes, which had to be thrown away in the end. I knew Dad would be mad and I had to let her know what she did was wrong. When I looked at her and said, “Bad girl,” she looked down at the ground and then went and hid. I saw a tear in her eyes.

Brownie turned out to be more than just our family pet. She went everywhere with us. People would stop and ask if they could pet her. Of course she’d let anyone pet her. She was just the most lovable dog. There were many times when we’d be out walking and a small child would come over and pull on her hair. She never barked (吠) or tried to get away. Funny thing is she would smile. This frightened people because they thought she was showing her teeth. Far from the truth, she loved everyone.

Now many years have passed since Brownie died of old age. I still miss the days when she was with us.

It is natural that young people are often uncomfortable when they are with their parents. They say that their parents don’t understand them. They often think that their parents are out of touch with modern ways, that they are too serious and too strict with their children, and that they seldom give their children a free hand.

It is true that parents often find it difficult to win their children’s trust and they tend(傾向) to forget how they themselves felt when young.

For example, young people like to act on the spot without much thinking. It is one of their ways to show that they have grown up and they can face any difficult situation. Old people worry more easily. Most of them plan things in advance, at least in the back of their minds, and do not like their plans to be upset by something unexpected.

When you want your parents to let you do something, you will have better success if you ask before you really start doing it.

Young people often make their parents angry with their choices in clothes, in entertainment and in music. But they do not mean to cause any trouble; it is just that they feel cut off from the older people’s world, into which they have not yet been accepted. That’s why young people want to make a new culture of their own, and if their parents don’t like their music or entertainment or clothes or their way of speech, this will make the young people extremely happy.

Sometimes you are so proud of yourself that you do not want your parents to say “yes” to what you do. All you want is to be left alone and do what you like. It is natural enough, after being a child for so many years, when you were completely under your parents’ control.

If you prefer to control your life, you’d better win your parents over and try to get them to understand you. If your parents see that you have a high sense of responsibility, they will certainly give you the right to do what you want to do.

32. According to the text, young people prefer to ______.

A. ask for advice before they really start to do anything

B. think in the same way as their parents do

C. be very strict with themselves

D. do things without thinking carefully ahead

33. Why do young people like to have clothes, entertainment and music in their way?

A. Because they want to try on something new and look different from the older.

B. Because they try to get their parents to be proud of them.

C. Because they want to give their parents a big surprise.

D. Because they want to test whether they are cleverer than old people.

34. According to the text, young people want to make a new culture of their own, because_____.

A. they feel they are cleverer than old people

B. they do not want to get into trouble with their parents

C. they don’t feel they belong to the world of the old people

D. they want to show the new is better than the old

35. If a young man intends to control his own life, it’s better for him to _______.

A. do everything according to his own wish B. hold himself responsible for everything he does

C. do everything beyond his parents’ control D. do everything the way his parents do

I am sorry to hear that you didn’t do good in maths and have lost interesting in schoolwork. In my opinion, maths is difficult for mostly students, so there is no need to feeling too bad. At this moment, you should cheer up but find ways to reduce your anxiety. Why not going on an outing with your friends or find time to listen to your favorite music? If you can talk to the teachers with whom you respect most, they may give you some practical advice that help you to improve your maths.
