雅思口語最新話題: spend time with a child

sit.

ly vacations.

3. Strangers who sat next to you on a train/plane.

4. Strangers in a park. (My heart was captured by his/her big sparkling eyes and innocent smile),陪着陌生人家的孩子玩兒了好半天,也可以分享一下。

I’d like to talk about the time I babysat my little nephew.

It was about a month ago, my uncle and my aunt were busy playing mahjong with my parents, so they asked me to babysit their 8-year-old son.

To be honest, I’m not really good with kids. I always find them noisy and irritating, but my nephew is different, I mean, he’s really cute and obedient. So I was actually quite elated about this arrangement.

I took him to the amusement park where there are plenty of entertainment facilities for children. We played merry-go-round, but he said it’s for girls, so we took the roller coaster and pirate ship ride. He was super psyched and elated. And I have to say, he’s really a brave little boy, ‘cause when we were riding the roller coaster, I was a little nervous, but he acted like nothing happened.

And after that, we went to the snack bar in the park. I bought him a combo for kids, and he even got a small toy as a gift from the shop owner.

When it was getting dark, I took him to the riverbank to walk my dog. Honestly, after a long day, I was exhausted, but he was still vigorous and kept chasing my dog. At that time, I was so jealous of him.

Anyway, we had a good time together.

最新雅思口語Part2話題答案: a time you spent with a child.

You should say:

who the child is

how you know him/her

why you spent time with him/her

and explain what you did when you were together

Just last week I spent some time with a child, in fact, it was my best friend’s son, Peter. He’s seven years old now and we spent some time together when his parents had to go to an appointment. It was basically a babysitting mission, a favour for my friend. I took my boyfriend with me for some help, and we both looked after Peter for the afternoon.

We went to my friend’s house and spent some time there catching up with each other before they had to leave. Then we took my friend’s son out to a park nearby where they live. He was really excited about going out. Apparently he loves going to this park with his parents so we thought it would be a good idea if we took him so that he wouldn’t miss his parents so much while they were away.

Anyway, we spent ages playing on the swings and climbing and just having fun, and he loved playing rough with my boyfriend, they were tumbling and rolling all over the place having a great time. I’m really happy that my boyfriend loves kids like this and is really interested in enjoying time with the6. m.

Watching him play with Peter was just like watching two kids playing together, I think he enjoyed the time in the park as much as little Peter did to be honest, maybe even more. My boyfriend doesn’t have any nieces or nephews in his family so it was all a bit of a novelty for him.

So after our time at the park we went to get some ice cream at a place close to the park. And after that we took him home to get him cleaned up a bit before his parents returned. By the time they got back he was ecstatic to see them again and spent ages telling them all about is adventures in the park and how good the ice cream was. He really is a super little boy and I love him very much.

I’m already looking forward to the next time we spend some time with him.

IELTS Speaking: the importance of part 2

Students often ask me what will happen if they do badly in part 2 of the speaking test. Is it still possible to get a high score?

Yes, in theory, it is still possible to get a reasonably high score (maybe band 7) if you do badly in part 2, but you would need to give excellent answers in part 3. In practice, candidates rarely recover from a bad part 2; I don't remember anyone who made a mess of part 2 but suddenly did a fantastic part 3.

My advice: You should consider part 2 as the core of your speaking test. It's your best chance to show how good your English is, and it's the examiner's best chance to listen carefully to your use of language. In fact, it's probably the point at which most examiners get a clear idea of what score to give you.

Students often worry that they need to use "complex structures" in the speaking test. But what is a complex structure?

This website explains the difference between simple sentences, compound sentences and complex sentences. You'll notice that compound and complex sentences are much easier than they sound! I'm sure you use them all the time without realising it.

Here's my advice: stop worrying about the need for "complex" grammar. Instead, focus on expressing your ideas well. As you explain your ideas in detail, you will naturally produce longer sentences which contain a variety of grammatical features.
