【背景】

中國共產黨第十八屆中央委員會第四次全體會議，於2014年10月20日至23日在北京舉行。全會按照黨章規定，決定遞補中央委員會候補委員馬建堂、王作安、毛萬春爲中央委員會委員。

Three new members filled vacancies of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) following the dismissal of former members from the Party.

在幾名黨員被開除黨籍之後，有三人遞補中中國共產黨中央委員會委員。

【講解】

中央委員會委員出缺時由中央候補委員（alternate member）“遞補”在英文中用fill the vacancy表示。中央委員會委員和候補委員都由黨代會代表和特邀代表通過無記名投票（secret ballot/anonymous ballot）選舉產生，中央委員會委員和候補委員都實行差額選舉（competitive election）。

十八屆四中全會同時還確認了中共中央政治局之前作出的有關罷免李東生等6人中央委員會委員身份的決定，“確認或批准之前的決定”可表達爲endorse the prior decision，“罷免某人的委員身份”則可用revoke the membership of someone或者strip someone of his/her membership表示，如：The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee decided to revoke the membership of six former officials, including Li Dongsheng, Jiang Jiemin, Yang Jinshan, Wang Yongchun, Li Chuncheng and Wan Qingliang.（中共中央政治局決定罷免李東生、蔣潔敏、楊金山、王永春、李春城以及萬慶良等6人的中央委員身份。）
